Technology is a great resource for all teachers, but especially for science. Some things in science are best seen and not just explained. The internet is full of interactive, scientific websites that are great for reinforcing any topic in science. Here is a list of some of those websites:
1. National Geographic Kids http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/kids/science-space-kids/: This site offers free videos, games, and other fun stuff. This site covers a variety of scientific areas. It also gives kids a chance to test out their new knowledge.
2. Amazing Space http://amazing-space.stsci.edu/: This site is all about outer space and the latest discoveries. It teaches about astronomy, telescopes, stars, and includes “Tonight’s Sky” constellations.
3. Climate Kids http://climatekids.nasa.gov/: This site helps kids answer questions about the global climate change. It includes educational games, activities, videos and crafts. This site is created through NASA.
4. Edheads Simple Machines http://www.edheads.org/activities/simple-machines/index.shtml: This site teaches kids all about simple and compound machines. Kids can visit “The House” to learn about simple machines that can be found in different areas of a house. They can then visit “The Tool Shed” to learn about compound machines.
5. Bill Nye the Science Guy http://www.billnye.com/: Nye has a very entertaining approach to science. He uses a Demo of the Day that highlights the day’s television episode. You can even email questions to Nye. The best part is that Nye keeps up with the newest and latest events in science.
